Hobby room renovation

How to add a hobby room to your house

If you live in a house, you can afford a room to effectively organize a space to relax. It doesn’t have to have a large room, just a space that allows you to dedicate some time for your hobby.

Life becoming more stressful makes us yearn for the few moments of relaxation and demanding and stressful jobs don’t leave us much time for hobbies that we enjoy doing.

Whether you love to carve, to knit, to build things, to collect or simply to play table tennis or billiard, you can have a hobby room, especially for your passions.

Workshop in a storage room

If you live in a house, you’re lucky because you can arrange a workshop in which to relax. The best solutions are sheds and garages, because here you can quickly set up a workbench. Thus, if you like to carve wood, other family member won’t mind the noises, and if you like to build and fix things, you have all the tools at hand in one place.

The fact that in these rooms you are allowed to make some mess is less important, but order must always be a priority. The best solution is vertically storage in racks and cabinets that open quickly so you can get the necessary objects when needed. Another simpler option is to hang tools on the walls, using nails or hooks in appropriate sizes.

Tailoring in bedroom corner

If your passion is knitting, embroidery or tailoring, you don’t necessarily need a hobby room. All you need is a closet or some shelves for storage, placed in the bedroom or in another room away from the bustle of the family. The sewing machine occupies some space, but you can also use it as a table when you’re not working.

In addition, above the sewing machine, on the wall, you can install shelves on which to store all the items that you need at tailoring, and you can admire your creations in a mirror glued to a closet door.

Active relaxation in the basement

Receiving visits from friends or simply relaxing with the family may involve sports activities that require more or less effort. If you are passionate about billiards and you have a basement that you don’t use anymore to capacity, you just need to place a table here.

However, this space must meet some mandatory conditions, without which pool parties could not take place in good conditions. First, you need to make sure the floor is perfectly flat, and this matter, leveling compounds might help. Secondly, you need to take into account the dimensions of the room.

For example, if the billiard table has 2.15 x 1.2 meters, you need and all around space of 1.6 meters. There fore, you need at least 5.35 meters / 4.4 meters of useful space. The lighting fixtures are also very important; you need to evenly distribute light on the playing surface. The lighting fixture should be positioned approximately 80 cm away from the table. Also in the basement, you can accommodate a ping-pong table, but in this case, you need a bigger space: about 64 square meters.

Closet space for collectors

Collections of stamps, coins, postcards or any other objects require organizing a study and storage space. A simple solution is arranging it in a closet or pantry, so it will fit a small countertop against the wall, several shelves above and a chair.

Probably the only problem will be to convince other family members that you need to change the destination of the closet, and then furnishing it is very easy. If you can’t do it on your own, you only have to take measures and have it custom made.
